Ship Data Logger
Upgraded the logger that records and transmits vessel operational data to Linux, and streamlined how it's built, tested and serviced.
Situation
The Data Logger records a vessel's operational data and sends it on remotely. Demand was growing, and the software, production, hardware and service workflows all needed to keep up.
Task
Improve the application's performance, reliability and scalability, and make the logger easier to produce and service.
Action
- Upgraded the Data Logger to a Linux platform.
- Improved the application code and added checks and automated tests before release.
- Documented streamlined processes for the development, production and service teams, including troubleshooting and integration guidance.
- Wrote procedures for porting the application to other platforms.
- Monitored the updated release in real deployments to guide further refinements.
Result
- Faster, more efficient handling of new orders.
- Fewer errors and better reliability.
- Now in use across multiple vessels for data logging and operational monitoring.
