Marine Mode Selector
A monitoring and control application for switching operating modes on hybrid vessels, deployed on one of Norway's largest tugboats.
Situation
Hybrid vessels are most efficient when they switch smoothly between operating modes, but crews lacked a responsive, easy-to-use interface for managing those transitions.
Task
Give crews a fast, intuitive way to switch modes from a Marine Tablet, with minimal training required, and make it work on both the legacy stopgap hardware and the new Display Units still in development.
Action
- Designed an operator-centred interface for mode selection and monitoring.
- Built the application in JavaScript and Python, containerised with Docker and optimised for the new Linux-based Display Unit.
- Set up development, production and maintenance workflows aimed at scalability, efficiency and long-term security.
Result
- Deployed on one of Norway's largest and most advanced tugboats.
- An architecture that carries over to future Display Unit platforms.
- Raised the bar for robustness and maintainability in the team's maritime software.

Propulsion Control System Display
A stopgap GUI for propeller pitch and RPM display units that kept ship control systems running through a spare-parts shortage.
Ship Data Logger
Upgraded the logger that records and transmits vessel operational data to Linux, and streamlined how it's built, tested and serviced.
