Autonomous Racing Robot Car
A self-driving kiwi car that follows a course of cones and races against other cars, built in the Autonomous Robots course at Chalmers.
Challenge
Make a small high-speed "kiwi" car drive itself: stay on a track marked with traffic cones, spot competing cars and steer to stay ahead.
What I did
- Explored image-processing techniques for reliable cone detection.
- Trained a custom YOLO model to detect and track competing kiwi cars.
- Connected the detection outputs to the steering control that guided the car.
- Built the whole pipeline in C++ on Linux as a set of microservices, which kept perception, decision-making and control modular.
Outcome
- Real-time object detection and responsive navigation.
- Precise manoeuvring and competitive autonomous performance on the track.
- A working end-to-end system: perception → decision → control.
